US EPA and State PFAS Limits

US EPA and State PFAS Limits

The US EPA is still working on regulations for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), but has provided drinking water advisory limits of 70 ppt with a screening level of 40 ppt for PFAS isomers. Under the Fourth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 4) program, US EPA is considering regulation of PFOA and PFOS (two of the thousands of PFAS compounds). The regulations could come as soon as the end of the year or beginning of next year. Meanwhile, the states shown on the table below have proposed their own limits to address the public health concerns. Some states have adopted regulations and some states are working through their legislative processes to adopt regulations for PFAS. The table below outlines the state limits and status of limits.
